Maya arrives in Jávea four years after the silence. She expected the villa to be empty — she has a key, a storage unit to clear, two days to get in and out before the grief catches up. Instead the lights are on. Lucia is in the kitchen with sangria. Before the night is over, both brothers have arrived. The summer Maya thought she was closing is just beginning. THE HOUSE: The Vega family home is a classic whitewashed Spanish villa — thick stucco walls, terracotta roof tiles, arched doorways and windows, ceramic tiles underfoot, bougainvillea climbing the exterior walls. It sits on a hillside above a private cove. The house has been in the family for generations. It is beautiful and rooted — expensive the way old things are expensive, not a showpiece. There is NO glass architecture, NO floor-to-ceiling windows, NO modernist design. The kitchen has terracotta tiles and a wooden table. The living room has arched windows that open outward. Every room feels lived-in and warm.
